Ottima struttura. Palazzo bellissimo. Gli appartamenti sono molto eleganti e dotati di ogni comfort, così come li vedete nelle foto. Sicuramente sarà la mia dimora fissa ogni volta che sarò a Napoli. Grazie di tutto. Siete gentilissimi.

The homely elegance of Rubinacci
Frankly, we didn’t know what to expect. Would Casa Rubinacci be a sleek, modern establishment, redolent of the trendiest boutique hotels? The family firm certainly has an up-market reputation today that would justify it. But perhaps it was unlikely, given the rather homely attitude that defines most Neapolitans. Indeed, in establishing its new shop Rubinacci had purposely sold its old boutique on Via Filanghieri to Prada, to take up a more refined position, high above the street.
“When we established that old shop 80 years ago, it was purposefully set back from the flashier boutiques on the seafront,” Luca Rubinacci told me that evening. “I told my father, ‘Via Filanghieri is now the seafront. We need to step back again’.”
No, there was nothing flash about Casa Rubinacci. My suite had a five-foot-tall CD stand in it, carved like an African statue. It wasn’t until Luca pointed out that CDs slotted neatly into the statue’s ribs that its original purpose became obvious. “This is an old thing of mine – this suite is where I normally stay when I’m in Naples,” Luca said.
Most of the other decorations about the house are from his father, Mariano’s collection. There are other African pieces, several imposing paintings and lovely fittings – particularly around the old lift that runs up the centre of the house. And fantastic sofas. The kind of sofas that are essentially beds, with a bolster at one end and 20-30 cushions. Sitting in front of the TV.
Casa Rubinacci has fives suites, two of them with two bedrooms, and all named after cloths: linen, cashmere, vicuna, silk and Tasmanian (the trademarked Loro Piana worsted). As you might expect, vicuna is the best. Located at the very top of the house, it has access to the wonderful terrace and solarium, from which you can look down on the rooftops of Naples, running down to the sea. Every other house, it seems, has a similar sun-bathing space on the roof, ringed with plant pots and featuring an open-air shower, to cool down on particularly hot Mediterranean days.
An Italian actor had been staying in vicuna for the past few weeks when we arrived. He had requested the services of the in-house chef almost every day, and Luca treated us to a lunch cooked by this Neapolitan master that first day. As you might expect in Naples, in featured a lot of mozzarella, beef-filled pasta and fresh tomatoes. David and I felt extremely guilty in not being able to finish it all, but then it was five large, savoury courses.
Breakfast comes to your door in the morning: sweet pastries and Neapolitan espresso from the local café. Nothing glamorous, as you’d expect by now. But tasty, genuine and local.
More information on the house and availability on the Casa Rubinacci website.
Thank you, Luca, for a lovely couple of days.

An Oasis in the city of Napoli!
When I traveled to Naples Italy I stayed at Casa Rubinacci. I fell in love with the city of Naples and then I fell in love with Casa Rubinacci. The property is a luxury vacation rental in the heart of the city. I enjoyed the close proximity to the Cumana train line (about half a block) and the Merghellina train station (about 3 blocks). Everything I needed was right outside my door. Within two blocks of Casa Rubinacci there are two fine restaurants a pharmacy a grocery store wine store and a gourmet wine and food store. The neighborhood is lively and intimate. My two favorite coffee spots were less than a two minute walk. I spent Saturday mornings during my visit drinking coffee and people watching. I wanted to experience all that Naples had to offer while staying in a luxury environment, I didn t go wrong with Casa Rubinacci. The staff at Casa Rubinacci is excellent. Monica the property manager is always available and responds to any questions or concerns within a matter of minutes. Rosario and his family are the caretakers of the property and they do a wonderful job keeping everything in top form. I will definitely return to Casa Rubinacci.
Room Tip: Room on the top floor has a huge patio and easy access to the rooftop which has stunning views of the gulf
